Mornings!

I can’t honestly say I thought I’d really get through NaNoWriMo. I tried Camp NaNo this summer and fizzled out after seven or eight thousand words or maybe it wasn’t even that long? I mean, I hoped. Don’t we all hope we’ll get through it? Get our 50k words and a full novel to publish?

Well, I’m at 33,000 and it’s going really well. I have enough plot left in my outline to hit 50k, even if I just write the big scenes and gloss over the buildup. (I don’t want to do that, of course, particularly as its a sin that I’ve seen come up in a lot of indie books.) In fact, I’m starting to think about counting down rather than counting up because the number is lower.

So why is it going so well? Is it the outline? The story itself? Nope. It’s pretty simple. It’s mornings.

I am not a morning person. I require a double size mug of very strong coffee just to get moving in the morning. Given the ability to set my own schedule, I’ll stay up until 3am and sleep until noon.  Apparently I can write though and more importantly, I can get myself out of bed at 5am to write, where after a day at work, making dinner, getting our Tiny One to bed and all that I’m just too tired at the end of the day to get anything done, even if I can muster up the ambition to pull out the laptop.

Please please let me keep it up! I can taste it now!

My NaNoWriMo 14 Projects

So I’m actually going to try this.  I have my story, The Rule of Thirds, an angsty New Adult college love triangle, all plotted out. I have beats written, more or less following the Save the Cat model. I love my characters and everything’s good.

The only downside is I’m currently in the middle of a Young Adult and I waffle about whether or not I want to abandon it for NaNo. I’d originally come to a point where I just wasn’t happy with where it was going and put it aside, figuring I’d come back with a fresh mind after Nano, but now I’m working on it again and I like it.

I guess I have another 14 and a half hours to figure it out.
